Use of waste heat from London underground tunnels

Islington council, EU, CELSIUS research project is an investor of this project in London underground (Islington).
The project is part of the larger European Union co-funded CELSIUS project (FP7), a partnership of five EU cities that aims to demonstrate how the efficiency and performance of district heating systems can be improved by focusing on the opportunity that they offer for capturing and utilizing sources of waste heat that are generated within cities.
Until 2013 all of the waste heat was emitted into the air and it wasn’t controlled. Also a lot of electric energy was used to run cooling systems, which weren’t so efficient.
